As an ongoing part of the Dartmouth 2011 Winter Cycling Seminar Series, the Cycling Team was honored to host one of their very own: Buddy Teevens, a graduate of the Dartmouth Class of 1979. Aside from his legacy on the football field and his current position as Head Coach of the Dartmouth Football Team, Coach Teevens is also an avid cyclist.
Upon entering the room, Coach Teevens immediately greeted the students in attendance and properly introduced himself. His warm welcome set the stage for an intimate discussion ranging from hydration techniques, favorite routes, bike companies, gnarly spills, and other personal experiences.
Due to the responsibilities and duties as Head Coach, Mr. Teevens spends the majority of the off-season recruiting and training new players. His busy schedule often leaves no time if any for a leisurely ride around the Upper Valley. Coach Teevens travels with his custom bike all over the country during his recruiting trips. While recruiting in the San Diego region in California, Coach Teevens found three weeks of free time before his return to Dartmouth. He made the impromptu decision to ride from San Diego, CA back to Hanover, NH on his custom Serotta. His cross-country bicycle trip encompassed beautiful sun-filled days, endless deserts, prolific floods, and some “interesting” hotel accommodations to say the least.
Coach Teevens has a love for cycling and was so gracious to share it with us last Thursday. The Dartmouth Cycling Team looks forward to riding with Coach Teevens this spring, and to a forthcoming spaghetti dinner at his home!
