This is just a taste of what Hincapie has cooking for us for 2010-11. Check out our
Clothing Order 2010-11 page for the full recipe. The clothing should be arriving by December! Get psyched, because the only thing cyclists enjoy more than riding bikes fast is riding bikes fast while looking devilishly handsome.

What do Dartmouth Cyclists do in the off season?
So, what do Dartmouth Cyclists do when congress orders the end of daylight savings? There are many answers to this simple question. Some of us, like Matt Nichols, simply head for Spain. Some of us, like Isaiah Berg, seriously up the Jens factor and riding exclusively in the freezing rain. Others are starting to make their way towards the gym, dreaming of shearing off crank spindles during sprints.
Here I thought I would share a few things that I've been doing in recent days to enjoy the off season.
First...prepare for snow. Cause its coming. Special thanks to our sponsor Bill @ TheBikeHub for this one.
Second...massive cross rides with old friends.
And third, but certainly the coolest...the 4th annual Lanesboro, Massachusetts Badassalon MTB/BB gun biathlon. This past weekend, Ellen Anderson and I headed down to Massachusetts to participate in this awesome, fun-loving event. We both had a great time. While I crossed the line first, my shooting was apparently not up to par. Still, it is proof that Dartmouth Cyclists do continue to have fun even when the bike racing stops.

One Week
You've got one week left to get your orders in for Dartmouth Cycling team clothing! Information found through our link on the right hand side: Clothing Order 2010-11.
In other news, the riding around the Upper Valley is still so sweet. We'll be doing a Moosilauke century ride this Saturday; blitz the team account if you're interested in joining. If you're on the team list-serv, you'll already hear all about it.
In the meantime, here's some pictures from this week's team rides. Featuring, clockwise starting with top left: Jericho, River Rd, Beaver Meadow, and Bragg Hill.
Ride Report: M Ride
If you have taken a gander at our Routes page, you would have seen a sampling of awesome rides in the Upper Valley.
Yesterday, four of us got to enjoy the M Ride that traverses some awesome climbs east of Hanover and encircles Lake Mascoma. It was an epic ride, and with a solid tempo pace is as good of a two hour bike ride as one could ever ask for.
With the foliage this pretty, it's hard not to skip class to take a ride up in the hills and mountains! Here are some mediocre camera phone pics to give you all an idea of what you missed.

A huge shout out goes to our lonely Dartmouth rider, Rosalie Lipfert, who travelled all the way down to Pennsylvania to represent Dartmouth at MTB Easterns. Apparently the trip was worthwhile because Rosalie again won in her women's B field. Time for an upgrade, methinks.
A special, huge, massive thanks goes out to Alex Russo and the rest of the Middlebury cycling team for helping Rosalie get down to PA and then hosting her there. We are so stoked to develop such a collaborative relationship with another northern New England collegiate team. Those guys are class acts over the pass...
Please see below for a course description from Middlebury's Alex Russo...perhaps the coolest collegiate MTBer around:
"The course was...interesting. Probably worse than our first race this season at Whiteface. Downhills were ridiculously unflowy and had some of the most rubble-strewn, loose-boulder, steep, ski-slope-wide descents. I kicked up helmet size boulders into my feet and ankles, and skidded around, nearly biting it on needle-sharp rocks at 30+mph multiple times. And there was the regular random 90 degree turn at the bottom of super steep techy runs back uphill. I'm not sure if a blind man or a mountain goat escaping a mountain lion designed this course..."
Ah the joys of collegiate MTB racing...

MTB Update - UVM
October 4, 2010
Well even though I'm still recovering from a bout with pneumonia, rolling out of bed at 4:45am was totally worth it when you have a crew as awesome as ours. Mike, Kodiak, Rosalie, and Kim loaded up in the dark like troopers and headed off to race on a monsoon-soaked course. Though it was a cold morning, it turned into a gorgeous day. Mike and Kodiak did great work in Men's C, taking 4th and 5th, respectively. Rosalie WON...that's right...WON in Women's B, despite tearing the cleat out of her left shoe. Way to go, Rosalie. Kim turned in a very respectable 8th place in Women's B too. I sense many upgrades in the near future. And though they all performed like champions, I was most impressed at what awesome teammates they are. Dartmouth Cycling should be so lucky as to represented by such quality individuals as we return to MTB racing in numbers.

UNH Recap
September 27, 2010
This past weekend, Isaiah Berg, Scott Sanderson, Kodiak Burke, Nick Wimer, and
I headed down to UNH for the xc races. Scott took part in the men’s A race, Isaiah, Nick, and Kodiak in the men’s C, and I in the women’s B. It was a first time experience for Isaiah, Nick, Kodiak, and myself so we had no idea what to expect. Plus we didn’t have enough time to preview the course so that made things even more interesting…starting with the first corner where a class six road narrowed to singletrack and nearly everyone was forced off their bikes, running frantically to make it up the hill.

After that first pile-up, I just tried to keep picking off girls. For the most part, they
were very friendly about letting me pass when I asked—the most layed-back racing
environment I have ever experienced. I lead the way for a little while, but unfortunately,
my lack of downhill skills lost me quite a bit of time. By the time I crossed the finish
line, I had accomplished five falls (some over the handlebars), had dented a brake lever,
and had blood streaking down my leg…not to mention the fact that my chain slipped off
at one point—thanks to Nick for helping me with that one!
The three C boys all survived and seemed cheery when I saw them at the end…I think
they were mostly excited to have completed their first mountain bike race intact! Kodiak
went on to compete in the downhill event the following day.
The four of us, Isaiah, Kodiak, Nick, and I, stayed to watch a couple laps of Scott’s race.
He had to do five laps, whereas we only did two…yikes! There also happened to be two
pro racers that day, but nonetheless, Scott rode smooth and confidently in the front of the
pack and was able to maintain his position. Nice work!
Overall, I can say that, despite our variations in ability levels, we’re all excited for the
upcoming races!

MTB Update - RIT and UNH!
Well, I'm stuck at home with bronchitis, so I might as well update the world on the awesome resurgence of Dartmouth in the ECCC Fall MTB Series.
Mike Holmes and I had an awesome weekend up at Whiteface outside of Lake Placid. The race on Saturday was absolutely brutal due to a last minute course change. Mens A did 3800 vertical feet of climbing over just 15 miles...and on brutal, rooty trails. Unfortunately, Mike was the victim of downed course tape and so had a DNF for Saturday. The Mens A race was truly one of attrition. The top 5 were actually the only ones who finished the race. Lucky for me, I recorded a 4th place!
Sunday was an awesome shorttrack with a quick, punchy fireroad climb through a pseudo-junkyard that dumped into fast, loamy unbelievable singletrack. And like all short tracks, it was brutally fast. Mike scored an awesome 2nd in C's on his crazy singlespeed! I guess that his bike must be magic after it carried Matt Maynard to a 2nd place on Saturday. I ended up in 5th. I was pleased, but was gaining and gaining on 3rd until I was passed and then trapped behind a lapped rider for only 10 seconds. But in shorttrack...10 seconds is all it takes. Overall, it was a super fun start to the season. We made many friends and showed the ECCC that we mean business. A special shout out to Middlebury's Alex Russo who made the trip on his own and slept in his car! A great guy and a great racer. Though my wheels took a hammering, my bike performed flawlessly. And the stunning looks of the Giant XTC 29er garned quite a bit of attention too, with even UVM riders asking to take her for a spin and short track spectators yelling "Big Wheels!" every time I went by.
I am so, so pleased to report that large crew went to UNH today without me! So many firsts this weekend: our first Dartmouth gravity rider (Kodiak Burke...and he raced XC too!!!!!) and our first female MTBer (Rosalie Lipfert). President Isaiah stepped up and led the crew last minute. And it sounds like Scott Sanderson held it down very, very well in A's. I was so sad that I couldn't be there to witness the resurgence of Dartmouth MTB racing, but the fact that it happened even without me should be testament to the energy of the team this year.

MTB Racing - Fall Update 2010!
Though the fall term has not even begun for the undergrads here at Dartmouth, the ECCC MTB season waits for no one. Mike Holmes and I are headed up to beautiful Lake Placid, NY to race at RIT's Whiteknuckle Season Opener this weekend. We have no idea what to expect from the new course at Whiteface Mountain, but if it is anything like the typical ski area XC course, it should be great. Much like many of the Dartmouth cyclists who were riding and racing in amazing places this summer, I was lucky enough to live and train in Granby, CO where my preceptor was the medical director for the USA MTB National Championships.
I am super excited to log my first race on my Giant XTC 29er. Though I've been riding 29ers for years, the Giant is just phenomenal. The frame is incredibly stiff in the front end and in pedaling efficiency, but has a very lively and comfortable ride. Given my results last year on a rigid 29er, I'm stoked to see what can happen with that beautiful Fox thru-axle fork up front. And of course, it is always so nice to head out to MTB races with an awesome sponsor shop behind you. Bill@thebikehub.com has gone above and beyond for Dartmouth racers. I know that he'll get me running for the next weekend no matter what it takes. It is such a great feeling to have someone so knowledgeable, so meticulous, and so committed as a sponsor.
Mike and I are headed out as the sole Dartmouth reps this weekend, but I know of many Dartmouth cyclists who are stoked to race in the mud this fall. We are all looking forward to a fantastic season. Look for more updates to come! If you are interested in coming out for a race this fall with the team, drop me an email at BennyG@dartmouth.edu.
In other news, we look forward to the triumphant return of our new President Isaiah Berg this fall! Isaiah is a true people person, so we are really looking forward to a welcoming and actively growing team under his leadership. And as Isaiah comes home to Dartmouth, we say goodbye to Vice President, Matt Nichols, as he heads off to Spain this fall and to Chicago this winter for his off term. This is a huge time of transition for Dartmouth Cycling without Trevor Eide, Patrick Barter, Will Blakeley, and Claire McKenna on the roster anymore. It is also a very exciting time for us with new leadership, a new constitution, and hopefully new talent!

Summer 2010
School has ended, temperatures have soared, and riding your bike never been more fun. The 2009-2010 school year came to a close and Dartmouth Cycling has had a lot to be proud of.
Our successes on and off of the road are all the confirmation we need to continue in our hard work.
We would like to thank our graduating '10s who provided years of leadership and camaraderie.
We would like to thank our sponsors and supporters, without whom our club could never reach such success.
We would like to thank our leadership team from the past year, as well as our new riders, for the hours of work and the countless energy that they contribute.
Dartmouth Cycling will be back in action in the fall of 2010 with cyclocross and MTB racing, and a continual focus on preparing for the road season of 2011. We expect continued team programming and seminars, utilization of online technology and media, and plenty of riding bikes fast.
As President for the next year, I am thrilled for the opportunity to serve and work with you all in pursuit of excellence. It's going to be a great, fast, long ride. See you when the leaves turn.

PS I am pleased to say that we have prospective and current Dartmouth cyclists (not to mention alumni!) riding and racing during the summer and across the United States. Send an e-mail to the Cycling Team with updates, ride reports, questions, or even some nice pictures from your Friday recovery ride.
Collegiate Nationals News: Dartmouth Women Dominate DII Road Race
Ari Filiberti scored an awesome National Championship title in the cold and pouring rain in Madison Wisconsin May 7th. Decisively beating MIT's Martha Buckley up the finishing climb, Ari took the DII win closely followed by Elle Anderson in 4th and Claire McKenna in 12th. See HERE for the USACycling coverage of the race.
ECCC Coverage of Easterns at Dartmouth:
Dartmouth Dominates Easterns
This weekend, Dartmouth College hosted the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Championships. The Hell of the North featured a Saturday TTT and Frat Row Crit, with the Norwich Hills Road race following on Sunday.
L'Enfer du Nord was a tremendous success. Thanks to the blood and sweat of Dartmouth's finest, like Directeur Sportif Michael Rea and our green army of Dartmouth racers and volunteers, Easterns was a weekend set apart in the spring racing calendar.
A full race report and pictures are forthcoming.
At a glance, they came (all 400+ of them), we saw, and we conquered. Dartmouth has reclaimed its rightful place as holder of the Ivy Cup. Dartmouth won the Easterns Championship team omnium. We had some gutsy wins and strong efforts at every level, from Intro's through A's. We showcased the very best of Dartmouth Cycling, and while nothing is perfect, there is lots to be proud of. Many thanks to the collegiate teams who traveled from far away to be a part of Easterns, and congratulations to the cyclists from every school who left nothing out on the road. Chapeau!
(pictured: Eric Schildge '10 takes the Men's A Criterium, doubling up for Dartmouth as Ari Filiberti '11 won the Women's A Crit earlier Saturday)
Dartmouth wins Army Spring Classic Team Omnium!
This weekend at West Point, the Dartmouth team finished with the most team points of any team, and had great individual results to support that. Results can be found HERE.

Another Successful Weekend at Yale
The Dartmouth Cycling Team had great attendance at the ECCC week #6, and some amazing results! See our race report for full details. Next week we are already planning for the West Point weekend down in NY, as we gear up for Easterns at Dartmouth, just 2 weeks away. Check out the Easterns race flyer here.
Dartmouth riders at Battenkill
While the team might be competing at Yale this weekend, we've got some great news from the Tour of the Battenkill. Arielle Filiberti '11 rode her way to the podium with a solid 3rd place finish in Saturday's Battenkill Pro/Am women's race. Elle Anderson '11 finished close behind in 9th. Read all about it in Velonews, and see the results HERE.

Philly Phlyer, ECCC Weekend #3
Quick update as the team readies to reunite at Princeton/Stevens this weekend: despite a long drive down to Philly, Patrick, Trevor, Benny, Aaron, and Omar maintained a strong Dartmouth presence last weekend while the rest of the team was down in Asheville. After a hectic morning of aerotizing, Patrick, Trevor, Benny, and Aaron scored a 5th place in the Men's A TTT. Patrick and Trevor fell victim to a fractured pack and plastic bags in the Men's A circuit race. Still, Trevor put in a solid effort in the 2nd field sprint. Omar had a great time in his first circuit race, despite a mechanical that left his chain off in both the front and rear(??). Aaron was killing it in Men's C up until a crash in the last lap. He walked away with some minor road rash, thanks to his shifter taking the brunt of the impact. Ben took 2nd in the Men's B circuit race. Sunday brought another 70+ sunny day and a technical, blistering 6-turn crit. We saw Omar find his racing rhythm for the first time in the crit. He was all smiles, despite getting pulled on the last lap. Aaron had a solid finish in the Men's C field. Ben managed another 2nd, despite catching a pedal. Again, it proved a frustrating day for Trevor and Patrick. Patrick put in a valiant effort pulling Trevor back up to the front pack where Trevor won the first prem sprint to defend his green jersey. Despite having a rider put his pedal into the spokes of his beautiful, new Rev carbon wheel on a prem lap, Trevor still managed to finish the race. Overall, a super fun weekend in the sun. Cycling tans are well on their way, and we're all looking forward to the team reuniting at Princeton.
Spring Break in Asheville, North Carolina
This week, March 18th-25th, the Cycling Team is in full training mode in the Blue Ridge Mountains in NC. We are joined by alums Rudy Awerbuch, Darrell Hoy and Cosmo Catalano, as well as 6 current Cycling Team members and our Directeur Sportif Michael Rea. We have put in some epic training days in the area, from 2-5 hour rides and some great, warm weather intermixed with some cold rain. We will be meeting up with the rest of the team for this weekend's races in NJ, held by Princeton and Stevens.
Columbia/Stevens, ECCC Weekend #2
March 13th-14th, 2010
The races in NY this weekend really threw us a good one in terms of crazy weather. As VeloNews reports, the races put on by Columbia and Stevens Institute of Technology were more a battle with the weather. See here for the Velo News article. We, the Dartmouth Cycling Team, had a stellar weekend nevertheless. Go to Velocity Results for full results from the weekend @ www.velocityresults.net. Stay tuned for pictures from this weekend and our Race Report!

3/3 - Alum in Olympics
2/25 - Gearing up for the Season
The Collegiate season starts in a matter of days! Preparations are well underway to get ready for Rutgers, the season opener in NJ. Despite the recent snow and rain here in Hanover, us cyclists are not forgetting that racing bikes fast awaits. We are currently booking our hotel rooms, reserving sprinter vans, and getting the team psyched for our first race.
Also coming up on our agenda, we will be heading down to Asheville, North Carolina on March 17th for our Spring Break training camp. The 9 of us going down are excited for some not so wintery and wet weather, and to explore the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
Thats all for now, but stay tuned for more updates to come!

Winter Seminar & Workshop Series
01/20/10 - This winter we are holding a series of seminars in collaboration with The Bike Hub. Check out the flyer! Tonight will be "The Basics of Bicycle Fit" with Dick Drummond at 7pm in the Oberlander Lounge - Alumni Hall Gym.
Winter!
01/16/10 - We all know riding during winter in the uppper valley can be tough. But it turns out that when cycling is relegated to trainers, the cross country skiing is at its best. Last weekend a few brave members of the team came out for an impromptu xc skate technique lesson. Abilities ranged from first time on skis to advanced. Great improvements were made by all and there will definitely be more workouts to come.
