This past weekend Matt Nichols, Michael Rea, and I headed up to Montpelier for Onion River Sports' second annual Frozen Onion winter MTB race. We met Coach Todd and locals Ed Meyer and Mike Whitfield up there too! Luckily, we had a good amount of falling powder to cover the bullet ice that had formed on the course over the previous week.
Although Matt flatted, we all had a great time playing in the snow and racing against a surprisingly competitive field, with a fair number of UVM cyclists in attendance too. I was lucky enough to take #2 on the Pugs after trading blows with Ed Meyer for most of the race. Who knew it was possible to win a sprint on the Pugsley!?! Michael had the good fortune to race for quite a while against local pro Lea Davison.
A big thanks to Onion River Sports. We're looking forward to the next winter race in February.
