Boston Beanpot

Despite the reality of the April fool's snowstorm the Dartmouth team visited Boston this past weekend to compete in their Beanpot race that due to the unstable weather conditions had to replace their "Most Soul Crushing Road Race" with an ITT following the planned TTT, which was extended by another leg breaking lap.

We had a men's A and a women's A team competing for glory and honor on the hilly TT course in the woods of Westminister. The men's A team faced fatigue and lactic acid halfway through the race, but that dismay is nowhere to be seen in the video that was captured with a helmet camera worn by one of the riders in the team. The camera was supplied by Dan Dimancescu and his photography team who filmed the  Dartmouth team at Beanpot and who will drive up to Dartmouth on the April the 16th for the epic race day of L'Enfer du Nord. This will hopefully result in a sweet movie about the team. You can see the part from the TTT here: http://vimeo.com/21868625

The women's TT team was more successful and rolled of the rolling course with a 3rd place.

After having warmed up on the TTT the Dartmouth team managed to grad four podiums with Rosalie Lipfert 1st in women's B, Daniel Holmdahl 2nd in men's C, Elle Anderson 3rd in women's A and Will Boylston 3rd in men's B.

As the snow started falling the team retired from the TT course to the hospitality of team alumni Claire McKenna and Patrick Barter who hosted one half of the team while four others stayed at a motel with no fuses but a very interesting burn mark in the shape of an iron on the carpet.

Sunday offered a much more cheerful forecast with enough sun to burn a few team noses, while racing a highly technical criterium at Tufts University. The course was hilly with steep corners on descends as well ascends, making the criterium very similar to the Hollywood car chases in San Francisco. The team faced both glory and asphalt during this racing challenge with Elle Anderson finishing 4th after a strong first time of the season performance in women's A, a 2nd place by Svante in men's C and a 6th by Will Boylston in men's B. Rosalie Lipfert who the previous day had won the women's B TTT was not as lucky during the crit when she, after having won two sprints, strikes the ground with her pedal in a steep ascending turn and flips over, landing right next to the curb with the chasing pack swishing by several seconds later after finally having bridged Rosalie's major gap. Fortunately, an ambulance ride later the ER concluded that Lipfert had received no serious injuries, just bruises and a helmet and bib-shorts cut to pieces by the med-aids.

Nicholas Wimer also made friends with the hard soil of Tufts university as he discovered the hard way how brutish and short the life of a rider in men's C can be. However, due to his extreme masculinity and Sicilian origin Wimer got back in the saddle and finished the race with blood dripping from his knee getting a 10th place, which is quite a remarkable performance considering the circumstances. His second I-crashed-but-I-am-too-hardcore-to-not-rock-this-race in a row.
